How is the practice of outraging conventions always a collective matter? In response to Nadja Argyropoulou’s curatorial theme “outraged by pleasure,” Dissonant Attunements engages the paradoxes of incongruent simultaneity. Following adrienne maree brown’s notion of “pleasure politics” in their book Pleasure Activism, particularly the emphasis on the somatic as a path, methodology and practice for transformative change, this gathering includes performances by Taka Taka, Maria Sideri, Maenads (Eleni Ikoniadou, Aliki Leftherioti, Afroditi Psarra), with a poetic audio piece by Jackie Abhulimen, and the book of paintings and diary entries “Baby Bump Revelations/ Ursula’s Diary” by Maria F. Dolores. This gathering of different embodiments, sonic vibrations and pleasure politics is inspired by artist Tourmaline’s work, Pleasure Garden, and their insistence on thinking of abolition “not necessarily as something that we want to get rid of or even something that we need to bring in, but as something we have already that we wanna make more of… We have our capacity to see the abundance that’s already here, let’s grow that into a further realization of what feels good.” This is an invitation to tune in, ride thefrequencies of solidarity, and celebrate our dissonant abundances in this pleasure building as something we already have and want to make more of.
