Humming electrifier is a video installation based on archival material from documentation in film from high voltage Tesla coils and a tesla lamp. Looking at electric current as an embodied fluid materiality and on electric flow as a constant,this installation allows to focus on the electric discharges produced at repeated set intervals by tesla machines and invites us to observe the activity of electric current but also the resonant frequency of the electricity they emit. Τesla machines a part from electric energy produce a specific acoustic experience. Coils act as percussion instruments and their spark generated causes a loud pop or bang that can be repeated with any desired frequency. Listening carefully to the machines «singing» and producing harmonics, the human voice comes to add her own desired frequency parallel with electric waves and creating a meditation that imagines like Tesla, a world free from the burdens of extracting, pumping, transporting and burning fossil fuels. The new desired frequency tunes in with the idea of the end of a civilization based on electric flow with its resources that are ending. Humming to the harmonics of these electric machines we vibrate in resonance to a suffering world, a lament of voltage harmonics.
